Escape into a remote coastal wilderness where connection gives way to stillness and simplicity. In the trip to Broken Group Islands, trade cell service for quiet beaches, ocean rhythms, and the raw beauty of the wild Pacific coast.

Itinerary

The journey begins in Vancouver, where the group meets before departing for Vancouver Island by ferry. The crossing offers scenic views of coastal landscapes and surrounding islands. Upon arrival in Nanaimo, continue with a picturesque drive across the island towards Tofino, passing through lush forests and mountain landscapes. Once in Tofino, set up camp and settle in for your first night surrounded by the sounds of the Pacific coast.
Start the morning with breakfast at camp, then head out to Secret Beach. Pack up the gear and begin the kayaking journey into the Broken Group Islands. Paddle through calm, sheltered channels surrounded by small forested islands, keeping an eye out for seals, seabirds, and starfish beneath the clear water. Reach Hand Island and set up camp for the next two nights. As the day winds down, head back onto the water for a sunset paddle, when the light softens and the islands glow in warm tones.
Spend a full day exploring the archipelago by kayak. Move between islands at a relaxed pace, discovering hidden coves, quiet beaches, and narrow passages carved by the tides. Stop midday for lunch on a remote beach, surrounded by untouched nature. Take time to explore on foot, wander along the shoreline, or simply sit and take in the stillness of the surroundings. Watch for eagles overhead and marine life in the water below. Return to camp in the evening and gather around a campfire. As darkness falls, enjoy the quiet atmosphere of the islands, far from city lights, with only the sound of the ocean in the background.
Pack up camp in the morning and begin the paddle back to Vancouver Island, retracing the route through the island channels. Take in the final views of the Broken Group Islands, reflecting on the remote beauty of the area. Back on land near Tofino, stop at the Kwisiitis Visitor Centre to learn more about the reagion’s ecosystems and the cultural heritage of the area. Slow the pace with an evening walk along Cox Bay Beach, following the coastal trail up to the lookout, where wide ocean views and crashing waves create a dramatic coastal scene, especially as the sun begins to set.
Begin the final day with a morning walk along Long Beach, where expansive shores stretch along the Pacific Ocean. Breathe in the salty air, watch the waves roll in, and take in the last moments on the coast. Start the journey back to Nanaimo, making scenic stops along the way. Walk among the towering old-growth trees of Cathedral Grove, then continue to Little Qualicum Falls, where powerful waterfalls rush through a forested canyon. Arrive in Nanaimo and catch the ferry back to Vancouver, marking the end of the Broken Group Islands adventure.
